3 MISTAKES YOU CAN’T AFFORD TO MAKE ABOUT DENTAL INSURANCE
- “I haven’t been to the dentist in years because I don’t have dental insurance.”Our office treats many patients who have neglected their oral health because they do not have dental insurance. When these patients come in, we often find multiple issues in need of attention. At this point, patients may be in pain and require costly interventions such as root canals, extractions, or expensive restorative dentistry, all of which could have been avoided through intervals of preventive dentistry.
- “I no longer have insurance through my employer.”
Our office also sees many patients who maintain their oral health through regular cleanings. (Smile!) But, when some of them lose their dental insurance, they stop coming. Sadly, however, the insurance premiums are often the same cost of the cleanings without insurance! We know this from extensive experience with a wide variety of companies and patients. Unfortunately many of these patients feel that their problems could have been prevented if they had dental insurance. However, the consequences of neglect are far more destructive to a patient’s health and finances than not having dental insurance.
- “I don’t have dental insurance. I’m not in any pain. Why spend the money for preventative dental check-ups?”We encourage all patients to come to us before a minor problem turns into a serious complication. You won’t always feel a minor problem until it erupts into a painful toothache. Regular check-ups can detect these minor concerns. Preventative dentistry is essential to maintaining your dental health. We want our patients to avoid the added cost of fixing cracked teeth or serious decay that could have been prevented in an earlier stage. The longer you wait to fix a dental problem, regardless of your insurance situation, the more it may cost in dollars and time.
Remember that your oral health is an important part of your overall health, so being uninsured should not be a reason to forgo visiting the dentist. Isn’t it better to spend a little more now. instead of a lot more later? Aren’t you worth it? We ask you to consider: Why sacrifice your oral health waiting for dental insurance?
