How are your “bodyguards” doing?
Now, hold on — I’m not talking about those hulking guys you see protecting people on the red carpet and other big events…
In talking about the ones in your mouth.
You see, the human mouth is home to 700 different species of bacteria.
Scientists call them your oral bugs — but I like to think of them as your body’s health gatekeepers.
While you’re chewing, they’re hard at work neutralizing “bad bacteria” that could make you sick.
And that’s one BIG job.
After all, according to Dr. Gerry Curatola, professor of medicine at New York University: 80% of human disease starts in the mouth.
And that shocking statistic only means one thing: Your gatekeepers are of MAJOR importance.
They serve as your first line of defense … plus, they attach themselves to your saliva and “prepare” food for healthy, balanced digestion in your gut.
In a nutshell: They’re vital to keeping your body healthy and strong.

By using mouthwash!
Now, you might think gargling with a little mouthwash is a harmless way to keep bad breath in check… and that’s true.
But mouthwash also nukes your gatekeeper bugs.
In fact, this was confirmed when a study out of the University of Alabama showed that people who used mouthwash just twice a day…
Had a whopping 50% GREATER chance of developing diabetes.
Shocking, right? Well, it gets worse.
Virtually all mouthwashes contain dangerous chemicals that alter your taste buds, disrupt hormone production, and stain your teeth over time.
But perhaps the worst of them all is Triclosan — a chemical which doesn’t just kill your gatekeeper bugs…
It also helps breed bad superbugs, which are dangerous bacteria that wreck your gut biome.
So, you may be wondering… what’s the solution, Dr. G — stop using mouthwash altogether?
No way. After all, I agree, bad breath literally stinks.
It just comes down to using the right mouthwash.
Which is why I wanted to show you a little “mouthwash hack” I use to keep my mouth clean without hurting my trusty gatekeepers.
I call it the Coconut Method.
Here’s how you do it:
Step 1: Swish 1 tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth — pulling it between your teeth and gums — for 30 seconds.
Step 2: Spit the coconut oil out, but NOT in your sink (eventually, coconut oil will harden and it could clog your pipes).
Step 3: Rinse your mouth with water.
Bonus: To amp up the health benefits even more — rinse with 6 ounces of water and 1 teaspoon of baking soda. This will alkalizeyour mouth and encourage an even pH level… so even more of your gatekeeper bacteria can thrive.
There you have it! I love this trick because it’s a great way to keep your mouth clean and healthy.
Plus, since coconut oil contains no alcohol — you don’t have to worry about that burning, eye-watering sensation mouthwash gives you.
